While in NYC wandering around the MOMA store, I stumbled upon this amazing book by Robert Sabuda, and tumbled head over heels in love with this paper-engineer's ability to transform much-loved, but well-worn books into wholly new experiences. You have to have the book in your hands to fully experience its magic. It just might be the coolest book ever. But, since I can't show it to you in person, let me give you a little virtual tour, something to whet your appetitie.
The first page, depicting Alice being lured away from home by the White Rabbit.
The main characters' faces bubble up out of the foliage, as if in some LSD-induced dream.
Pull up a chair at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. Or take a draw off of the Caterpillar's hookah.
Last, but most definitely not least, my favorite page (if you can even call it that). The intricacy of Sabuda's representation of the exploding, menacing deck is dazzling.
